Two people were killed in separate bear attacks in Japan on Friday, police and local media reported on Saturday. The incidents occurred as authorities warn of a growing number of bear sightings and attacks across the country, including in residential areas.

One of the victims, a mushroom picker, was found dead in a forest in Miyagi Prefecture, in northeastern Japan. The recent increase in bear populations and habitat encroachment has led to more frequent encounters with humans, prompting local governments to issue safety alerts and intensify monitoring efforts.

Wildlife experts attribute the surge in bear activity to food shortages in mountain areas, pushing the animals closer to human settlements.
