Kenitra Clashes: Crackdown on Sports Hooliganism Leads to 15 Arrests
In a decisive move against sports-related violence, Moroccan authorities in Kenitra have apprehended 15 individuals, including two minors, for their alleged involvement in acts of hooliganism following a tense match between Rabat's FAR and Olympique Safi on Saturday.
The post-match security operations, conducted as part of the 24th day of the Botola Pro 1 championship, were a stern response to the unruly behavior exhibited by a group of spectators. According to security sources, the arrested suspects were implicated in causing material damage to public property and engaging in violence against law enforcement officers performing their duties.
The incidents were characterized by a blatant disregard for established codes of conduct, with reports of stone-throwing resulting in injuries to two members of the public forces and damage to stadium equipment. Alarmingly, several suspects were found in possession of drugs, bladed weapons, blunt instruments, and tear gas canisters, further exacerbating the gravity of the situation.
In a swift response, the competent public prosecution initiated judicial investigation procedures to uncover the full extent of the criminal acts and identify any potential accomplices. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities leveraging collected evidence to apprehend any remaining individuals involved in these deplorable acts.
The crackdown sends a resounding message that hooliganism and violence in the realm of sports will not be tolerated, underscoring the authorities' unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all spectators and participants.
As the nation's football league progresses, with Rabat's FAR emerging victorious in the match against OC Safi, the arrests serve as a stern reminder that the beautiful game should be celebrated in a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship, free from the scourge of violence and lawlessness.
