Khamenei rejects Trump’s demand as US signals end of patience
In a rising escalation of tensions, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei dismissed Donald Trump’s call for unconditional surrender, declaring that the Iranian nation would never bow to threats. Speaking in a televised address, his first since Friday, the 86-year-old leader warned the United States that any military action would bring irreparable consequences.
“The Iranian people and their history make it clear that we will not respond to intimidation,” Khamenei said, emphasizing Iran’s resolve amid a wave of Israeli airstrikes on Tehran.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump signaled a shift in tone, saying that U.S. patience had run out but declined to reveal whether Washington would join Israel’s military campaign. “There’s a big difference between now and a week ago,” Trump told reporters. “Nobody knows what I’m going to do.”
As Israeli attacks intensified, highways leading out of Tehran were clogged with civilians fleeing the capital. Israel’s military announced that 50 fighter jets struck about 20 locations in and around Tehran overnight, including facilities linked to missile production. The Israeli Defence Minister stated that operations targeting the symbols of Iranian governance would continue.
Trump, fluctuating between calls for diplomacy and threats of escalation, suggested in social media posts that Khamenei could be a target and demanded Iran's complete surrender. Sources close to his administration said that joining Israel in attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities remains under consideration.
