Major Aerospace Firm Embraces Solar Power Across Moroccan Operations
In a significant move toward sustainable energy adoption in North Africa's industrial sector, TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation has completed the installation of comprehensive solar power systems across five Safran facilities in Morocco. The newly implemented systems are set to generate 2,400 MWh of renewable energy annually, marking a substantial shift in the aerospace manufacturer's energy sourcing strategy.
The installation, comprising 2,600 solar panels, now supplies 30% of the facilities' annual electricity requirements. This transition is expected to yield environmental benefits through a reduction of approximately 1,700 metric tons of CO₂ emissions each year. TotalEnergies has taken full responsibility for the systems' design, installation, and commissioning phases, ensuring optimal performance and durability.
Hamady SY, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Middle East & Africa, emphasized the project's significance: "This project with Safran showcases our commitment to delivering reliable, sustainable energy solutions to businesses in Morocco."
The initiative aligns with Safran's broader environmental objectives, as explained by Nathalie Stubler, the company's Group Director of Sustainable Development: "We are proud to collaborate with TotalEnergies on this fully operational solar panel project. This initiative underscores our global strategy to reduce our carbon footprint and enhance energy efficiency at our sites in Morocco."
This development represents a notable advancement in Morocco's industrial sector's adoption of renewable energy solutions, particularly within the aerospace and defense manufacturing segment. The project demonstrates how major industrial operations can successfully integrate sustainable energy sources while maintaining operational efficiency.
