Man charged with murder of his father in Northern France
LILLE (AFP) — A man has been charged with the murder of his father, whose charred body was discovered in the northern French town of Pecquencourt, the Douai prosecutor’s office announced on Tuesday.
Police were called to the scene on Saturday following reports of a family dispute. Upon arrival, they found a 60-year-old man dead, his body severely burned, according to a police source.
The victim’s son, who lived alone with his father, was taken into custody at the scene. Neighbors reportedly told investigators that the man suffered from psychiatric disorders, the same source said.
Early findings suggest that the suspect set his father on fire, the Douai prosecutor’s office added. A flagrante delicto investigation was opened for “voluntary homicide of an ascendant.”
After being held in police custody, the suspect was formally charged and remanded in pre-trial detention on Monday evening, prosecutors said.
