A 39-years-old man has died following a shark attack in the state of Queensland in northeastern Australia, according to local authorities.

The attack occurred near the Kennedy sandbank area at Hull River Heads, a coastal location situated south of the popular tourist city of Cairns and close to the Great Barrier Reef.

Emergency services responded shortly before midday after reports of a serious shark attack. Authorities said the victim was pulled from the water and taken to a nearby boat ramp, where rescue teams attempted to assist him. However, he died from severe injuries at the scene.

Police and marine safety officials launched an investigation into the incident while local authorities urged swimmers and boaters to remain cautious in the area. Officials have not yet confirmed the species of shark involved in the attack.

Australia records a number of shark encounters each year due to its extensive coastline and active marine ecosystems. While shark attacks remain relatively rare, authorities regularly warn beachgoers to follow safety recommendations, especially in regions known for shark activity.

The latest incident comes only days after another fatal shark attack was reported in Western Australia, renewing concerns about water safety along the country’s coastlines.

Marine experts note that shark behavior can be influenced by weather conditions, water temperature, migration patterns, and the presence of bait fish. They continue to emphasize the importance of surveillance systems and public awareness campaigns to reduce risks for swimmers and surfers.

The tragedy has drawn attention across Australia, particularly in coastal communities where ocean activities are an important part of daily life and tourism.
