Two days after a deadly attack outside a synagogue in Manchester, six people suspected of “preparing and inciting terrorist acts” have been arrested and are being questioned by British police. The assault, which occurred during Yom Kippur, left two people dead and three seriously injured.

Authorities have described the incident as an act of terrorism targeting the Jewish community. In response, Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged citizens to show solidarity and restraint. “This is a moment of mourning, not of division,” he wrote on X, calling on protesters to respect the grief of British Jews.

Despite official calls to cancel, pro-Palestinian demonstrations are planned for Saturday, including one in London’s Trafalgar Square organized by the group Defend Our Juries. The association expressed solidarity with the Jewish community while maintaining its right to protest.

The Manchester attack is one of the deadliest assaults against Europe’s Jewish population since Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, which ignited the ongoing war in Gaza.
