Marrakech Shines as Pan-Islamic Cultural Hub
The esteemed Moroccan city of Marrakech commenced its year-long role as the vibrant hub of cultural exchange throughout the Islamic world last Friday. The opulent launch ceremony at Meydane Theater was adorned with dazzling performances, marking Marrakech's distinction as the "Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for 2024."
Dignitaries such as Moroccan Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaïd and ICESCO Director-General Salem Ben Mohamed El Malek graced the occasion. The musical talents of Fnaire and Nabyla Maan enthralled the audience with the official event anthem, while the choreography of Zakaria Bennane led the mesmerizing dance performances by Yassine Lachheb and the Unity Dance group.
Salem Ben Mohamed El Malek expressed admiration for Marrakech in his address, accentuating the city's rich tapestry of historical monuments, imposing ramparts, grandiose palaces, and bustling medina alleys steeped in artistic heritage. "Marrakech embraces you with its radiant history wherever you venture," he poignantly remarked.
As the cultural epicenter, Marrakech will host a diverse array of programs celebrating Islamic civilization. These events will spotlight the city's distinctive Andalusian architectural marvels, pulsating oral traditions, and ethos of religious inclusivity. Bensaïd underscored that this accolade acknowledges Marrakech's vibrant cultural dynamism across various domains.
The Ministry of Culture and ICESCO will collaborate closely with local stakeholders to curate a splendid calendar of events that meet the expectations of residents and visitors alike. Marrakech will remain in the global spotlight, emanating its enduring allure and artistic ethos that have solidified its status as a beacon of pan-Islamic culture.
