Marseille: Retired jeweler couple victims of a violent €500,000 burglary
A retired couple of jewelers, aged 86 and 95, were brutally assaulted and robbed at their home in Marseille’s 8th district. The burglars made off with an estimated €500,000 worth of jewelry and luxury watches before fleeing the scene.
The incident took place on October 24, when two masked and gloved individuals posed as members of a local aid network to gain access to the couple’s residence. Once inside, they violently attacked the elderly victims and ransacked the entire property. One of the victims was hospitalized following the assault.
According to the Marseille public prosecutor’s office, the investigation—opened for aggravated theft—has been assigned to the territorial crime division. So far, no arrests have been made. The perpetrators remain at large as police continue their efforts to identify and apprehend them.
