Turkey and Somalia reaffirmed their commitment to deepening maritime and security cooperation as Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler met on Monday with Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Marine Transport, at the Defense Ministry headquarters in Ankara.

According to a brief statement shared via the Turkish social platform NSosyal, the meeting focused on ongoing collaboration between the two nations, particularly in areas related to maritime security, port development, and regional stability. While officials did not disclose specific agreements, the encounter reflects the continued strategic partnership between Ankara and Mogadishu, especially as Somalia works to strengthen its naval capabilities and protect key trade routes in the Horn of Africa.

Turkey has been a long-standing supporter of Somalia’s security sector, providing training, infrastructure assistance, and military cooperation for over a decade. Monday’s meeting reinforced this relationship, highlighting both countries’ intent to maintain close dialogue on defense and maritime issues.
