Mexico: At least 23 dead amid heavy rains and flooding
At least 23 people have died in Mexico due to heavy rains that have battered most of the country since Thursday, according to local authorities.
The Mexican Civil Protection agency reported that 31 of the 32 states are currently affected by intense rainfall, with the states of Veracruz, Querétaro, Hidalgo, and San Luis Potosí among the hardest hit.
In Veracruz, aerial footage shows large areas submerged under water, while rescue teams continue evacuations and search operations.
Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone regions to remain alert and follow evacuation orders as rivers continue to overflow.
Meteorological services forecast that the rain will persist through the weekend due to a tropical depression moving across the Gulf of Mexico.
