Mohamed Belmahi re-elected as Africa’s representative at the UCI

Mohamed Belmahi, President of the Royal Moroccan Cycling Federation (FRMC), has been re-elected as Africa’s representative within the International Cycling Union (UCI). The election took place on Sunday in Cairo during the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) congress, which brought together representatives from 49 countries.

Belmahi secured his position after competing against Ashraf Mohamed Saïd Imam Mohamed from Sudan, Pascal Twingar from Chad, and Kheireddine Berbari from Algeria, according to a statement from the FRMC.

During the same congress, Ivorian candidate Allah Kouamé was elected President of the Confederation of African Cycling, narrowly defeating former president Mohamed Wagih Azzam from Egypt by one vote. Kouamé received 25 votes from national federations, while Azzam garnered 24.

The re-election of Mohamed Belmahi reflects the continued trust of member countries in his leadership and his contributions as head of the FRMC, according to the statement.

Belmahi has been recognized for his active involvement within regional and continental cycling organizations and has served on the UCI Management Committee since 2013.
