Morocco-France: Philippe Tabarot Praises Morocco's Rise as a Continental Mobility Hub
Morocco is confirming its strategic positioning in the transport sector in Africa. During the 15th Morocco-France High-Level Meeting, French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot praised the progress made by the Kingdom in developing its infrastructure, stating that the country is now establishing itself as a true "mobility hub" on the continent.
Following a working meeting held in Rabat with Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh, the French official highlighted the transformation of the Moroccan railway landscape, emphasizing that the High-Speed Train (TGV) project serves as a reference in terms of engineering, infrastructure, and deployed technologies.
According to Philippe Tabarot, the participation of French companies in this project illustrates the strength of cooperation between the two countries. He described this partnership as an "immense mark of trust," highlighting the financing mechanisms developed jointly and the expertise mobilized to support this structuring project.
Cooperation Set to Expand
Beyond rail transport, the two ministers reviewed several cooperation areas aimed at enhancing exchanges in road, maritime, and air transport.
The discussions specifically focused on increasing the quota of international transport authorizations to facilitate trade exchanges between Morocco and France. Both parties also examined ways to improve the mobility of Moroccan professional drivers operating on international routes.
Prospects for cooperation in the maritime sector also held significant importance in the discussions. The two officials expressed their willingness to develop the sharing of expertise, enhance skills, and support modernization projects for the merchant navy.
Airport Infrastructure at the Heart of Priorities
The meeting also allowed for discussions on the development of the airport sector. The two delegations emphasized the importance of renewing the cooperation protocol established between the National Airports Office (ONDA) and Aéroports de Paris (ADP), to support future modernization projects of Moroccan airport infrastructures and promote the exchange of know-how.
The two ministers agreed to continue their collaboration in this area, prioritizing innovation, modernization of equipment, and improvement of operational standards.
Investing in Training to Support Major Projects
Philippe Tabarot also stressed the importance of skill development to accompany investments in infrastructure. He advocated for strengthening cooperation in training, particularly in the fields of railway engineering and transport, through support for centers of excellence and specialized sectors.
For his part, Abdessamad Kayouh reminded that this meeting is part of the dynamic of the strengthened exceptional partnership between Morocco and France, driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Moroccan minister highlighted that both countries intend to continue developing joint projects in the transport and logistics sectors while enhancing the exchange of expertise and coordination between the relevant institutions.
