Morocco and Brazil are forging a deeper economic partnership to foster sustainable growth and shared prosperity, as highlighted during the LIDE Forum held in Marrakech. The event brought together over 100 business leaders and institutional representatives from both nations to explore avenues for enhanced collaboration.

Speaking at the forum, Morocco’s Investment Minister Karim Zidane emphasized the shared vision between the two countries, rooted in historical ties and a commitment to progress. “Morocco and Brazil share more than ancient history — we have a common vision of the future. We see progress through investment and cooperation through trust,” Zidane remarked.

Building on historical ties

Trade between Morocco and Brazil has seen significant growth over the past two decades, tripling to exceed $2.5 billion in 2023. Zidane, however, highlighted the untapped potential in cross-investment, calling for initiatives to unlock these opportunities.

The minister further noted that this forum marks a pivotal moment, aiming to elevate the bilateral relationship to “a new level” grounded in shared ambition, economic complementarity, and mutual respect.

Morocco’s strategic role

Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco has positioned itself as a credible economic hub and a bridge between continents. Zidane underlined the country’s political stability, advanced logistics infrastructure, and dynamic workforce as key enablers of its regional and global influence.

Morocco’s extensive network of over 50 free trade agreements provides preferential access to a market of more than 2.5 billion consumers, bolstering its appeal as a strategic partner. “Morocco is not just a gateway to Africa — it’s a strategic crossroads between Europe, the Arab world, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Americas,” Zidane said.

Exploring new opportunities

The forum, organized by LIDE Group, featured former Brazilian President Michel Temer alongside ministers, diplomats, and economic leaders. Discussions spanned key industries such as agribusiness, aeronautics, energy transition, commerce, technology, and tourism — sectors where both nations can leverage their strengths to build mutually beneficial partnerships.

This gathering underscores a shared commitment to advancing beyond traditional diplomatic ties toward concrete economic collaboration, signaling a new era of cooperation between Morocco and Brazil.
