Morocco and France strengthen security ties with joint action plan

In a significant step toward enhancing bilateral security cooperation, Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance of Morocco, and Louis Le Guillet, Director General of the French National Police, signed a joint action plan in Rabat. This agreement outlines a roadmap for combating transnational organized crime and deepens longstanding cooperation between the two countries' security services.

Signed during Le Guillet’s visit to Morocco accompanied by the French ambassador in Rabat and a high-level security delegation the action plan reinforces the commitment of both nations to strengthening mutual assistance across various domains of law enforcement.

According to an official statement, the newly signed framework aims to institutionalize decades of exceptional cooperation while expanding the scope of bilateral efforts. It includes the potential formation of joint working groups to confront international crime challenges such as the pursuit of fugitives and other cross-border threats.

The plan sets the stage for expanded collaboration in training, information sharing, technical support, and operational coordination elements seen as essential for a sustainable strategic partnership aligned with the close ties between the two nations.

During the visit, Le Guillet expressed deep appreciation for the contributions of Moroccan security services in supporting French national security, particularly in counterterrorism efforts, the apprehension of suspects sought by French courts, and preparations for the Olympic Games in Paris. He also affirmed France’s willingness to support Morocco in securing future international sports events.

As part of the visit, the French ambassador Christophe Lecourtier awarded Abdellatif Hammouchi the rank of Officer in the National Order of the Legion of Honour one of France’s highest recognitions highlighting Morocco’s key role in global efforts against terrorism and organized crime, and the proven effectiveness of the security partnership between the two countries.

Hammouchi and Le Guillet also engaged in detailed discussions on the status of bilateral cooperation, shared concerns, and new strategies to strengthen joint responses to evolving threats.

This visit reflects the depth and importance of the security relationship between Morocco and France and their shared commitment to enhancing operational cooperation to confront modern-day security challenges.
