The General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) and the Confederation of Industrial Chambers of Mexico (CONCAMIN) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday in Mexico City, marking a significant step toward strengthening economic and industrial cooperation between the two nations.

Strategic partnership for growth

The agreement, signed by CGEM president Chakib Alj and CONCAMIN president Alejandro Malagón Barragán, aims to enhance trade and investment ties while exploring opportunities in key sectors of mutual interest. Morocco’s ambassador to Mexico, Abdelfattah Lebbar, was present at the ceremony.

This partnership envisions the organization of joint trade fairs and industrial forums, fostering dialogue between business leaders, and promoting policies that encourage bilateral trade and investment. Additionally, the memorandum lays the groundwork for creating a mixed commission to oversee cooperation programs and pursue joint projects.

Morocco’s industrial edge

CGEM president Chakib Alj highlighted the agreement's potential to unlock new investment opportunities and reinforce private sector collaboration. He emphasized Morocco's industrial advancements, noting its position as Africa’s leading automobile producer and its growing presence in industries such as aerospace, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and food production. Alj also cited Morocco’s political stability, modern infrastructure, and skilled workforce as key drivers for attracting international investment.

Mexico’s perspective

CONCAMIN president Alejandro Malagón Barragán underscored the complementarity between the two countries, particularly in sectors such as pharmaceuticals and food industries. He praised Morocco as a dynamic economy with valuable industrial assets, making it an ideal partner for long-term collaboration.

Economic mission to deepen ties

The signing of the MoU was part of a broader economic mission led by CGEM to Mexico, running from September 22 to 25. Coordinated with Morocco's embassy, the mission seeks to consolidate bilateral economic relations and identify new areas for trade and investment partnerships.
