Morocco is steadfast in its commitment to resolving maritime border issues with Spain through dialogue and adherence to international law, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita emphasized during a seminar on maritime space delimitation in Rabat. This approach reflects Morocco's broader maritime doctrine, which prioritizes territorial integrity, international legality, and peaceful dispute resolution.

Bourita underscored that Morocco views the sea not as a dividing line but as a bridge for connection and collaboration. He highlighted the country’s dedication to a transparent and constructive bilateral dialogue with Spain, reinforcing the strategic partnership between Rabat and Madrid.

Beyond border delimitation, Morocco’s maritime vision positions the ocean as a driver of economic development and regional integration with Africa. This ambition is evident in projects like the expanding port infrastructure at Tanger Med and the planned Dakhla Atlantic port, as well as initiatives like the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline and efforts to provide Sahel countries access to the Atlantic.

Morocco’s maritime sovereignty has been built on decades of legal and institutional milestones, from the Royal Navy’s establishment in 1960 to recent legislative updates in 2020. Bourita stressed the importance of reforming global ocean governance to address technological advances, environmental challenges, and emerging maritime uses.

The seminar brought together international legal experts, offering a platform to exchange ideas on maritime governance and reaffirm Morocco’s leadership in this strategic domain.
