Morocco emerges as candidate to host the Finalissima between Spain and Argentina
Morocco has reportedly entered the race to host the upcoming Finalissima, a high-profile match that pits the champions of Europe against the champions of South America. The anticipated clash between Spain and Argentina could be relocated due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East that may affect the original host country, Qatar.
The match was initially scheduled for March 27, 2026, at Lusail Stadium in the capital city of Doha. However, regional instability has led the Qatari football authorities to temporarily suspend several sporting events, raising uncertainty about whether the match can take place as planned.
The Finalissima is a prestigious encounter organized jointly by UEFA and CONMEBOL. It brings together the winners of the UEFA European Championship and the Copa América in a symbolic showdown between the two continental champions.
As uncertainty grows around Qatar’s ability to host the event, several alternative locations are being considered. According to international media reports, London has emerged as a leading option should the match be moved.
Meanwhile, Morocco has also expressed its willingness to organize the event. The North African nation has strengthened its reputation as a major sporting destination in recent years, particularly after hosting major international tournaments and investing heavily in football infrastructure.
Another proposal reportedly came from the Royal Spanish Football Federation to stage the match in Madrid. However, the Argentine side, represented by the Argentine Football Association, has favored the idea of playing on neutral ground to ensure fairness.
Discussions between the key football authorities—including FIFA, UEFA, CONMEBOL, the Spanish federation, and the Argentine federation—are ongoing ahead of the final decision deadline. While several options remain under consideration, London currently appears to be the most advanced candidate to host the highly anticipated match.
