Morocco Receives Acclaim for Exemplary Counterterrorism Efforts
Morocco has garnered widespread recognition from the international community for its unwavering commitment to combating terrorism. The 6th Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum, recently held in Marrakech, witnessed participants lauding the Kingdom for its pivotal role as a global leader in counterterrorism.
As the host of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism and the outgoing chair of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum (GCTF) from 2021 to 2023, Morocco has taken the lead in spearheading initiatives to prevent extremism and foil terrorist plots on a global scale. The Kingdom's presidency of the GCTF has been hailed as a remarkable success.
In a joint declaration, foreign ministers from Arab and Russian nations advocated for the enhancement of Russian-Arab counterterrorism coordination to effectively combat terrorist groups posing threats to the security and stability of Arab nations. They explicitly denounced any entities resorting to arms against legitimate state authorities.
Morocco's Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, emphasized that terrorism should not be linked to any religion or ethnicity. He called on all states to cease providing direct or indirect support to individual terrorist actors.
Expressing unequivocal condemnation for terrorism in all its forms, the forum reaffirmed that terrorist acts are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of motivations or perpetrators. With the global surge in extremism, participants expressed gratitude to Morocco for its steadfast resolve in working towards a safer world.
