Morocco’s airports welcome nearly 19 million passengers in the first half of 2026
Morocco’s aviation sector continued its strong momentum during the first half of 2026, with the country's airports handling nearly 19 million passengers, reflecting sustained growth in both international and domestic air travel.
According to data released by the National Airports Office (ONDA), Moroccan airports welcomed approximately 18.8 million travelers between January and June, representing a significant increase compared with the same period in 2025. The figures highlight the continued recovery and expansion of the country's aviation industry, supported by tourism, business travel, and improved international connectivity.
International routes remained the primary driver of growth, accounting for the vast majority of passenger traffic. Domestic travel also recorded steady gains, reflecting increasing mobility within the Kingdom and stronger demand for internal air connections.
Casablanca Mohammed V Airport maintained its position as Morocco's busiest airport, followed by Marrakech Menara Airport, while Agadir Al Massira, Tangier Ibn Battouta, and Rabat-Salé also registered solid passenger volumes during the six-month period.
European destinations continued to dominate Morocco's international air network, benefiting from close economic ties, tourism, and the large Moroccan diaspora living across Europe. Meanwhile, routes connecting Morocco with North America, Africa, and South America recorded notable growth, illustrating the country's expanding global aviation links.
By contrast, passenger traffic to certain destinations in the Middle East and Asia declined during the reporting period, reflecting shifting travel patterns and market demand.
The positive trend also extended beyond passenger transport. Aircraft movements increased across Moroccan airports, while air cargo volumes posted double-digit growth, demonstrating rising activity in both passenger and freight operations.
In June alone, Moroccan airports handled more than three million passengers, confirming continued demand as the country entered the busy summer travel season.
The latest figures reinforce Morocco's growing role as a regional aviation hub connecting Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Continued investment in airport infrastructure, route expansion, and tourism development is expected to further strengthen the country's air transport sector in the coming years.
