Morocco continues to provide vital humanitarian assistance to Gaza, intensifying efforts to combat the severe humanitarian crisis caused by the ongoing Israeli military campaign. Rabat has urged Israel to allow the entry of aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave, where extreme starvation and destruction have been reported since October 2023.

Morocco’s commitment to Gaza

Moroccan authorities, under the directives of King Mohammed VI, have reiterated their dedication to delivering aid to Gaza. Morocco has requested permission to fly humanitarian supplies, particularly food, to Ben-Gurion Airport in Israel, from where the aid would be transported by truck to the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza.

According to reports from Israel Hayom, Morocco's request is being reviewed by Israel’s National Security Council to assess its feasibility. The aid transfer plan involves Morocco’s eighth Hercules transport fleet, further underlining the nation's logistical commitment to the relief campaign.

In July, Morocco’s Bayt Mal Al Quds Asharif Agency implemented the third phase of the humanitarian relief program, delivering fresh vegetables and other essential supplies to Gaza. This initiative follows a series of aid efforts, including a June 2024 operation involving 40 tons of medical supplies and a similar 40-ton shipment in March of the same year.

Intensifying crisis in Gaza

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached catastrophic levels, with widespread famine and relentless attacks on civilian homes. Reports indicate that at least 154 Palestinians, including 89 children, have died of starvation amid the ongoing blockade. In the past 24 hours alone, seven more individuals, including one child, succumbed to hunger.

Despite the dire circumstances, Morocco has consistently called for an immediate ceasefire, the lifting of the blockade, and unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. The North African kingdom’s efforts reflect its unwavering commitment to alleviating suffering and addressing the urgent needs of Gaza’s population.

A plea for international action

Morocco’s direct appeals for humanitarian access, including a personal request from King Mohammed VI to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, highlight the urgency of the crisis. The Moroccan government has also underscored the necessity of coordinated international efforts to halt the violence, ensure the flow of aid, and safeguard the lives of civilians in Gaza.

This ongoing crisis has placed an immense burden on Gaza’s population, with countless families left without basic necessities. Morocco’s humanitarian contributions stand as a beacon of solidarity and hope in an otherwise bleak landscape.
