Moroccan football is set to take center stage at the CAF Awards 2025, with AS FAR, RS Berkane, and two national teams earning prestigious nominations. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled its shortlist this week, highlighting Morocco's prominent presence in the competition.

AS FAR's women’s team is nominated for the Women’s Club of the Year award, while RS Berkane is in contention for the Men’s Club of the Year honor. Additionally, the Moroccan senior national team and the U-20 squad are both in the running for National Team of the Year.

AS FAR and RS Berkane dominate

AS FAR’s women have solidified their status as one of Africa’s top football clubs. Their recent dominance includes winning the Moroccan league and excelling in continental tournaments. This consistency has earned them a place among the continent’s elite teams, alongside South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns and DR Congo's TP Mazembe.

RS Berkane’s nomination follows a stellar season during which they claimed the Moroccan Botola Pro title and lifted the CAF Confederation Cup, defeating Tanzania’s Simba SC. Their tactical discipline and squad depth were instrumental in overcoming formidable clubs from across Africa.

Other nominees in the club categories include Egypt’s Pyramids FC, Cote d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas, Algeria’s CS Constantine and CR Belouizdad, South Africa’s Stellenbosch, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns, Tanzania’s Simba SC, and Sudan’s Al-Hilal.

National teams’ achievements

Morocco’s senior national team earned its nomination through strong performances in international competitions. Meanwhile, the U-20 team made history by winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup, marking the first time a Moroccan team has claimed this title. Their victory sparked nationwide celebrations and received accolades from global football figures.

Awards ceremony in Marrakech

The CAF Awards ceremony is set to take place in Marrakech, marking the third consecutive year Morocco hosts the event. While the exact date remains unconfirmed, reports suggest the ceremony will be held at the Palais des Congrès, the same venue as the 2024 edition.

The awards, which recognize the best players, coaches, and teams in African football, cover performances from January 6 to October 15, 2025. Morocco has a strong history in these honors, with AS FAR’s women winning the club award in 2022 and the men’s national team claiming Team of the Year in 2022 and 2023.

With four nominations this year, Morocco continues to assert its dominance in African football, both on and off the pitch.
