Morocco to host inaugural men’s U17 world handball championship
The International Handball Federation (IHF) has officially designated Morocco as the host for the first-ever IHF Men’s Under-17 World Championship, set to take place from October 24 to November 1. This groundbreaking tournament will feature 12 national youth teams competing for the championship title, marking a significant development in international handball.
The addition of this tournament to the IHF calendar aims to provide young players with an invaluable platform to showcase their skills on an international stage. "The IHF aims to offer young players the chance to compete against the best from other nations, allowing them to test their skills in a professional and demanding atmosphere," the federation stated in its announcement.
This championship is particularly noteworthy as it represents the first experience of international competition at such a high level for many participating athletes, offering them critical exposure. The IHF emphasized the tournament’s role in strengthening the global handball community, providing young players with opportunities to refine their skills and accelerate their development.
Morocco's rich history in hosting significant sporting events further enhances the anticipation surrounding the championship. Previously, Morocco hosted the 45th African Handball Champions League in October 2024, where Egypt’s Al Ahly claimed their seventh title.
As the tournament approaches, the IHF will release more information regarding the qualified teams, schedule, and draw details for the U17 World Championship.
