New Zealand pets can now enjoy their own Non-Alcoholic wine
After a long day of guarding the house or exploring the neighborhood, New Zealand’s pets now have a new way to unwind: non-alcoholic wine infused with catnip. With playful names like Champawgne, Purrno Noir, and Sauvignon Bark, Auckland-based company Muttley’s Estate has launched a range of beverages designed especially for cats and dogs.
Company manager John Roberts said he began producing wine for pets after seeing similar products abroad, such as dog beer. “It’s great for stressful situations,” he explained. Roberts’ family runs a veterinary pharmaceutical business, which provided him with the expertise to develop these innovative drinks.
The pet-friendly wine has already found success in New Zealand and Australia, and Muttley’s Estate hopes to expand into Asia and North America. “I’m not sure we would have been as successful if we had marketed it simply as a pet treat,” Roberts admitted. However, exporting hasn’t been entirely smooth — in some countries, customs officials have initially tried to tax the product as alcoholic wine before realizing it contains no alcohol.
