In a rare public response, former U.S. President Barack Obama has rebuffed recent accusations made by Donald Trump, who claimed that Obama attempted to "steal" the 2016 presidential election.

The former president’s spokesperson, Patrick Rodenbush, issued a strong statement on Wednesday, denouncing Trump’s comments as “constant absurdities and disinformation flowing from the White House.” Rodenbush emphasized that although Obama usually refrains from responding to such claims out of respect for the presidency, the gravity of Trump’s allegations warranted a direct rebuttal.

Trump, currently facing criticism for his handling of the Epstein case and ongoing scrutiny over Ghislaine Maxwell, accused Obama and Hillary Clinton of orchestrating a smear campaign based on false narratives about Russian interference. He went as far as to call their actions “criminal,” referencing a supposed conspiracy and even using the term “treason.”

“These allegations are ridiculous and represent a weak attempt to distract from more pressing matters,” Obama’s team responded.

The spokesperson also highlighted that the Russian interference in the 2016 election is a well-documented fact, confirmed by multiple investigations. “Nothing in the recent disclosures undermines the widely accepted conclusion that Russia interfered in the election process, although it did not alter the vote results.”

He further referred to a 2020 bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report—led by Republican Senator Marco Rubio—which concluded that Russian operatives actively sought to influence the election in favor of Donald Trump.
