OCP Nutricrops to boost fertilizer production with new facilities

OCP Nutricrops, a subsidiary of the OCP Group and a prominent player in phosphate-based fertilizers, has unveiled a significant investment plan aimed at increasing its fertilizer production capacity by 9 million tons by 2028. This ambitious project involves the establishment of two new mining and industrial hubs located in Mzinda, Youssoufia, and Meskala, Essaouira.

These facilities are set to enhance production capacity by 4.5 million tons as early as 2026, focusing on high-quality fertilizers, particularly TSP (Triple Super Phosphate) and TSP+. According to OCP Nutricrops, the integration of advanced technologies and sustainability principles is central to this initiative.

This expansion is part of the SP2M program, which aims to substantially boost OCP Group’s production capacity while reinforcing its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040. The new hubs represent a forward-thinking approach in industrial development, incorporating Industry 5.0 technologies, artificial intelligence, and automation.

Designed to operate entirely on renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, these facilities will also utilize non-conventional water sources, including desalinated water and treated wastewater. This commitment to sustainability underscores OCP Nutricrops’ dedication to efficient production methods.

The modular and flexible design of the hubs enables them to adapt to market fluctuations and optimize the value chain, ensuring a reliable supply of tailored fertilizers to meet global agricultural needs.

In addition to enhancing industrial production, OCP Nutricrops envisions these sites as catalysts for regional economic growth. Collaborating with key partners, including Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), INNOVX, and JESA, the initiative aims to foster local and international partnerships in green energy, the circular economy, and Industry 5.0. These efforts are poised to empower local communities through skill development and the promotion of sustainable practices.
