Morocco’s National Office of Electricity and Potable Water (ONEE) has announced the prequalification process for contractors to construct nearly 1,000 kilometers of ultra-high voltage transmission lines connecting Boujdour and Tensift. This ambitious project aims to enhance Morocco's national grid and support the country's renewable energy transition.

The transmission infrastructure, scheduled to commence operations in December 2028, will transport approximately 2,000 megawatts of renewable electricity across southern and central regions of Morocco. This represents a key step in integrating large-scale renewable energy into the national grid, meeting increasing energy demand while bolstering supply security.

ONEE has set January 15, 2026, as the deadline for bid submissions. Following the prequalification phase, eligible contractors will participate in a formal tender under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) framework, which encompasses design, construction, and commissioning.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize Morocco’s energy infrastructure. The existing grid includes over 30,000 kilometers of very high voltage lines, with projects like a 400-kilovolt double-circuit line to Dakhla already operational and another under construction, expected to be completed by mid-2026. These developments will evacuate approximately 900 megawatts of electricity, particularly from wind farms nearing completion by late 2026.

The Boujdour-Tensift connection will play a pivotal role in optimizing renewable energy distribution, aligning with Morocco's goal of generating 52% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. It also aligns with the energy roadmap established under His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s vision for sustainable development.

ONEE’s ongoing efforts underscore its commitment to providing secure, reliable, and decarbonized electricity across the nation. Interested parties can access the prequalification notice on ONEE's official website.
