OpenAI Removes Text Chat Limits for Free ChatGPT Users

OpenAI has announced a major update to ChatGPT by removing limits on text-based conversations for users of the free version and subscribers to the Go plan. The change, which will be introduced in the coming days, is designed to make artificial intelligence more accessible and improve the overall user experience.

The update introduces GPT-5.6 Luna as the default language model for free and Go users, replacing the previous GPT-5.5 Instant model. With this change, users will be able to hold unlimited text conversations without the message quotas that previously restricted usage after a certain number of prompts.

Although text interactions will no longer be limited, OpenAI confirmed that resource-intensive features such as image analysis, file uploads, and certain advanced tools will continue to operate under usage limits. The company also noted that temporary restrictions may still be applied when necessary to prevent misuse and protect platform stability.

Another addition is a new Reflection mode, available to free and Go users. This feature allows the AI to spend more time processing complex questions, producing more detailed and carefully reasoned responses for tasks that require deeper analysis.

Meanwhile, GPT-5.6 Sol, OpenAI's more advanced model, remains exclusive to Plus and Pro subscribers. According to the company, the premium model delivers greater accuracy, improved reasoning, and fewer factual mistakes, offering enhanced performance for demanding professional and creative applications.

The announcement reflects OpenAI's broader strategy of expanding access to artificial intelligence while continuing to improve the quality of its services. By removing text conversation limits, the company aims to encourage wider adoption of AI-powered tools for learning, productivity, research, and everyday communication.

OpenAI says the update represents another step toward making advanced AI technology available to a broader global audience. However, the company has not disclosed how it will manage the additional computing costs associated with unlimited text conversations, especially as ChatGPT continues to serve a rapidly growing user base worldwide.
