OpenAI wins major US military AI contract
The United States government has awarded a $200 million contract to OpenAI to develop advanced artificial intelligence tools for military and national security purposes. The Department of Defense stated that the aim of the partnership is to address key security challenges through cutting-edge AI technology.
Based in San Francisco, OpenAI is recognized for its conversational AI technologies. This agreement marks the company’s first under its new initiative, “OpenAI for Government,” which seeks to introduce its services to federal agencies. The tools developed under this contract will support cybersecurity, enhance data collection, and streamline administrative operations.
As the role of AI in global defense strategies continues to grow, many AI firms are increasingly collaborating with the military sector. In recent months, companies such as OpenAI, Palantir, and others have offered their technologies to the U.S. defense apparatus. Notably, in December, OpenAI also partnered with Anduril Industries to bolster defenses against drone threats.
