Pakistan hit by deadly monsoon rains: 21 dead in 24 hours
Pakistan is once again facing the devastating impact of the monsoon season. In the last 24 hours alone, at least 21 people have lost their lives, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
Eight deaths were reported in the eastern province of Punjab, largely due to flash floods and house collapses, while 13 more victims were confirmed in the district of Buner, in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Since the beginning of the rainy season on June 26, the NDMA reports that at least 905 people have been killed and more than 1,000 injured nationwide. The floods have also destroyed over 9,000 homes and wiped out more than 6,000 livestock, compounding the humanitarian toll.
Authorities have issued fresh warnings about further rainfall in the coming days. Rescue teams remain deployed across affected areas, while assessments of damage and urgent relief operations continue.
