At least twelve Pakistani soldiers were killed early Saturday in an ambush carried out by Pakistani Taliban fighters in the country’s northwestern region near the Afghan border, according to local officials and security sources.

The attack occurred around 4 a.m., when assailants positioned on both sides of a road opened fire with heavy weapons on a convoy of military and paramilitary personnel. “Twelve members of the security forces were killed,” a local administrator confirmed.

A security officer stationed in the area said the attackers seized the convoy’s weapons following the assault. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an armed group linked to the Afghan Taliban, claimed responsibility, describing the incident as a “highly sophisticated operation” that allowed them to capture ten machine guns and a drone.

The TTP has intensified its attacks in recent months, particularly in border regions, posing a growing challenge to Islamabad’s security apparatus.
