Paraglider injured in fall at Jbeil following recent safety ban
On August 28, 2025, a paraglider sustained injuries after a mid-air fall in Jbeil, Lebanon, according to sources in the field who requested anonymity.
Social media videos show Red Cross rescuers attending to the injured individual on rocky terrain near El-Bahsa public beach. One clip captures what appears to be a paraglider wing or parachute nearby, while another, filmed from a higher vantage point, shows bystanders assisting the paraglider before emergency services arrived. Both videos were verified by a third independent source. The Red Cross has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
This event comes just a week after Lebanese Minister of Youth and Sports, Nora Baïrakdarian, prohibited acrobatic paragliding due to the absence of a legal framework to ensure the sport’s safety. The decision followed the death of professional paraglider Omar Sinjer, who fell 300 meters into the sea when his parachute failed to deploy.
