Paris: A 3-year-old injured after being hit by garbage truck
A serious accident involving a child occurred late Sunday afternoon in Paris’s 12th arrondissement, when a 3-year-old boy was struck by a garbage truck while crossing the street.
According to local sources, the child was riding a scooter and reportedly slipped away from the adult accompanying him. He quickly entered a pedestrian crossing on rue Claude-Decaen, not far from the Bois de Vincennes.
Foot trapped under the wheels
The driver of the garbage truck was apparently caught off guard and had no time to brake. The child ended up under the vehicle, with one foot trapped beneath the wheels.
Bystanders quickly gathered around, trying to comfort the child and alert emergency services. It took rescuers nearly 90 minutes to safely extract him, though the child remained conscious throughout the intervention.
He was transported to a hospital in critical condition, but according to reports, his life is not in danger. Medical staff were still uncertain on Sunday night whether his foot could be saved.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident, which has sparked renewed concern about urban traffic safety and the vulnerability of young pedestrians in densely populated areas.
