Philippines: At least 14 injured in new earthquake, hospital evacuated
Cebu, Philippines — At least 14 people were injured during a 5.7-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Cebu Islandin the central Philippines on Monday morning, local authorities reported. The quake struck just after 1 a.m., two weeks after a major earthquake devastated the region.
Eight people were injured in Bogo City, and six more in the municipalities of San Remigio and Daanbantayan. Authorities also reported that a road was damaged in San Remigio.
The Bogo district hospital temporarily evacuated its patients after a parapet collapsed in one of its buildings and a power outage occurred, according to a provincial government statement.
This earthquake follows a series of recent tremors, including a 6.0-magnitude quake on Saturday and two larger quakes of 7.4 and 6.7 magnitudes on Friday. The Philippines is located on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, a region of frequent seismic activity stretching from Japan to Southeast Asia and across the Pacific.
