PLAY Airlines launches new direct flights to Agadir, Morocco

Icelandic low-cost carrier PLAY has announced the introduction of direct flights between Keflavik Airport, located near Reykjavík, Iceland's capital, and Agadir, Morocco. This new service is set to commence on December 19, 2025, with flights scheduled weekly on Fridays until mid-April 2026.

The duration of the flight is approximately five and a half hours, marking PLAY's second Moroccan destination following the launch of flights to Marrakech.

“Our objective is to offer Icelanders an exceptional choice of sunny destinations, and Agadir won’t disappoint,” stated Einar Örn Ólafsson, CEO of PLAY. Agadir is renowned for its climate, which is akin to that of Tenerife, boasting around 300 days of sunshine each year.

The winter schedule for this route accommodates significant holidays, including Christmas and Easter. Agadir is celebrated for its golden beaches and world-class golf courses, and the city has undergone substantial redevelopment in recent years. These enhancements aim to provide a relaxed and enjoyable experience for both residents and visitors, featuring modern infrastructure and various leisure activities, including scenic seaside promenades.

The introduction of Agadir expands PLAY’s leisure network to 16 destinations from Iceland, which includes eight locations in Spain, four in Portugal, Split in Croatia, and Antalya in Turkey.

PLAY made its initial foray into the Moroccan market in 2024, launching direct flights between Reykjavik and Marrakech on October 17. This route operates twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, and was developed in collaboration with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT). This partnership seeks to leverage Iceland’s strategic position as a transatlantic hub, connecting five major North American airports through Reykjavik: New York, Washington, Baltimore, Boston, and Toronto.

ONMT has identified Iceland as a key market for Morocco, launching promotional campaigns in Scandinavian countries, including the "Light Tour" held from May 27-30, 2024, which attracted over 150 key players in Scandinavian tourism.

With the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by Morocco, increased airline interest in the region is evident. PLAY operates a fleet of 10 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, poised to enhance connectivity between Iceland and Morocco.
