President Trump orders investigation into Biden’s mental health
President Donald Trump has launched an investigation into Joe Biden’s conduct during his time in office, alleging a covert effort by Biden’s aides to mislead the public about his cognitive health. Trump criticized the use of an autopen a mechanical device that replicates signatures and has been commonly used by presidents, including himself to sign executive orders, calling this practice part of a "dangerous scandal" in American politics.
Biden dismissed Trump’s claims as baseless distractions aimed at diverting attention from his administration’s work on extending tax benefits for the wealthy. Republicans, including Trump, have repeatedly questioned Biden’s mental sharpness and challenged several pardons and federal regulations signed near the end of Biden’s term.
A Republican-controlled House committee has requested testimony from Biden’s close aides regarding his mental and physical state while serving as president. Trump, 78, accused the public of being deliberately kept in the dark about who actually exercised executive power during Biden’s presidency, suggesting that documents signed by Biden’s autopen led to radical policy changes.
Now 82 and undergoing treatment for advanced prostate cancer, Biden has firmly rejected these allegations, affirming that he made all presidential decisions himself. Recent scrutiny has intensified following a new book revealing attempts by Biden’s inner circle to conceal his physical decline during the 2024 election campaign, including discussions about providing him a wheelchair.
Biden ended his re-election bid last year amid growing concerns about his health and political performance. Some Democrats, like former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have criticized him for not stepping down sooner, which could have allowed the party to nominate a stronger candidate. Biden later disclosed his cancer diagnosis, which led to further speculation from Trump’s allies about how long his condition was kept private.
