Psoe de Madrid faces scandals with questionable defense strategy
The Psoe of Madrid, under the leadership of Óscar López, finds itself at the center of a crisis shaking Pedro Sánchez's government. Minister spokesperson Pilar Alegría and the secretary general of the Psoe of Madrid have repeatedly stated, “Let not the trees prevent us from seeing the forest,” in an attempt to divert attention from a week marked by scandals, including a false rumor about a Civil Guard officer.
Both ministers have spread the false news that a current member of Isabel Díaz Ayuso's government threatened the president. Despite the revelation of this misinformation, neither López nor Alegría has corrected or apologized, challenging the demands from the Madrid Executive and continuing to call for the dismissal of the head of security for the Madrid Health Service.
In an unexpected turn, López has claimed he never stated any falsehood, even though his comments are recorded and still available on his social media. The erratic strategy of the Psoe's secretary general seeks to minimize the impact of the scandals on the party, but his approach has resulted in accusations against Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the Pp, whom he blames for the “deafening noise” surrounding the current situation.
Both ministers believe the crisis is part of a “dirty war” orchestrated by the Pp, which aims to divert attention from the issues faced by Sánchez's government. The Psoe spokesperson in the Madrid Assembly, Mar Espinar, has taken advantage of debates in the Vallecas Chamber to criticize Ayuso, suggesting that her only interest is to destabilize Feijóo.
The Psoe of Madrid has also attempted to distort Ayuso's statements in a recent interview, presenting them as a veiled threat to the Pp leader. When asked about her aspirations to become president of the Government of Spain, Ayuso made it clear that it is not something she is currently considering, emphasizing the importance of the direction that the Pp, under Feijóo, must take in light of the country's deterioration. However, the socialists have twisted her words to imply that Ayuso was warning Feijóo about a “last opportunity.”
