Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Madagascar President Michael Randrianirina at the Kremlin on Thursday, discussing bilateral relations and recent humanitarian needs.

During the meeting, Putin expressed condolences for the two cyclones that recently struck Madagascar, affecting over 270,000 people and resulting in more than 40 deaths. He praised the Madagascan government for its response efforts and highlighted the potential for further political and diplomatic cooperation between the two nations.

Randrianirina thanked Putin for the invitation to Russia and requested support to address the aftermath of the natural disasters. He emphasized the importance of international assistance for Madagascar’s recovery and development during this challenging period.

The meeting comes amid Russia’s growing engagement in Africa, which includes expanding its military, political, and cultural influence across the continent, particularly in the Sahel region. Observers note that these diplomatic visits are part of Moscow’s strategy to strengthen partnerships and increase its role in international development initiatives.
