Qatar denounces Israeli strike on Doha amid escalating Gaza crisis
An Israeli strike on Qatar’s capital, Doha, has killed six civilians, sparking outrage across the Arab world and intensifying calls for international accountability. The attack, which Israeli authorities claimed targeted Hamas leaders, instead left families grieving and prompted sharp condemnation from Qatari and regional leaders.
A strike that shook Doha
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) stated that the airstrike aimed to eliminate senior Hamas figures allegedly operating out of Doha. However, the attack resulted in civilian casualties, leading to widespread mourning in Qatar.
Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani attended the funerals of the victims, while Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani accused Israel of committing “state-sponsored terrorism.” Qatar’s government declared the bombing a “cowardly” violation of international law and state sovereignty.
A global call for accountability
The strike occurred during an emergency UN Security Council session, where Qatari diplomats called for decisive international action. Morocco was among the first nations to condemn the bombing, characterizing it as a blatant infringement on Qatar’s sovereignty.
Diplomatic observers expressed concern that the attack could undermine Qatar’s ongoing efforts to mediate peace in Gaza, where the nation has previously played a crucial negotiating role.
Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe deepens
Meanwhile, Israeli operations in Gaza have escalated, with at least 43 Palestinians killed in a single day, including 15 civilians seeking humanitarian aid. Families have been displaced en masse, fleeing northern Gaza to overcrowded southern regions as resources like food, water, and medicine grow increasingly scarce. itarian organizations have condemned the mass expulsion orders issued to Gaza’s residents, calling them a “death sentence.” Reports indicate that since October 2023, Israeli strikes have killed over 64,656 Palestinians and wounded 163,500 others. Starvation and malnutrition have claimed an additional 200 lives, underscoring the dire conditions in the besieged enclave.
Regional solidarity with Qatar
Across the Arab world, governments and citizens have rallied behind Qatar. Morocco reiterated its commitment to supporting Doha and its sovereignty in the face of external threats.
For Qatar, the strike marks both a national tragedy and a defining moment in the region’s broader struggle for justice. The attack has galvanized calls for accountability amid the continued devastation in Gaza.
