Russia-Ukraine conflict update day 1207
Ukrainian forces successfully destroyed three Russian air defense systems in the Zaporizhia region, currently under Russian control, according to Kyiv’s military intelligence. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukrainian troops retook the village of Andriivka in the northeastern Sumy region as part of their ongoing efforts to push Russian forces out.
Diplomatic Moves
Russian President Vladimir Putin informed US President Donald Trump that Moscow is prepared to resume peace talks with Kyiv after June 22, following the completion of prisoner and fallen soldier exchanges. Zelenskyy plans to attend the G7 summit in Canada starting Sunday and is expected to meet with Trump during the event.
The G7 agenda includes discussions on imposing further sanctions on Russia if it refuses a ceasefire, reflecting earlier commitments made by foreign ministers in Quebec. Separately, Finland has accused senior officers of the Russia-linked vessel Eagle S of criminal acts related to last year’s damage to undersea cables between Finland and Estonia. The European Union labels Eagle S as part of Russia’s "shadow fleet," a group of fuel tankers with concealed ownership designed to bypass Western sanctions.
Meanwhile, Germany aims to boost defense funding in the EU’s upcoming budget, responding both to Russian threats to Europe and calls from Trump for greater European security efforts.
