Ryanair Launches Direct Madrid-Dakhla Flights, Strengthens Morocco-Spain Air Links
In a significant expansion of air connectivity between Morocco and Spain, Ryanair inaugurated its new Madrid-Dakhla route on Wednesday, operating twice-weekly flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The Irish low-cost carrier's inaugural flight landed at Dakhla Airport, marking a key milestone in the implementation of a memorandum of understanding between Ryanair and the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT). The development positions Ryanair as the fourth international carrier to establish direct flights to Dakhla, joining existing operators Royal Air Maroc (RAM), Binter Canarias, and Transavia.
Local officials and tourism industry stakeholders gathered at a ceremony to commemorate the launch. Moroccan expatriates on the inaugural flight expressed enthusiasm about the new connection to Dakhla and commended the airport's comfortable facilities and welcoming atmosphere.
Further expanding its presence in the region, Ryanair plans to launch an additional route connecting Dakhla with Lanzarote in the Canary Islands this month, also operating twice weekly. These new services will significantly boost Dakhla Airport's international capacity, doubling current levels to reach approximately 47,000 seats.
The expansion marks a notable shift in regional air travel patterns, with Spain set to become the primary source market for flights to Dakhla, surpassing France. This development represents a substantial enhancement of Morocco's air connectivity and tourism infrastructure, particularly benefiting the Dakhla region.
