Saad Lamjarred faces French court again over rape allegations
Moroccan pop star Saad Lamjarred, known for his international hits, is appearing once again before the French justice system. He is set to face the assize court of Var in Draguignan on Monday for rape allegations dating back to August 26, 2018, which could carry a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
The case involves a seasonal worker whom Lamjarred reportedly met in a nightclub. She claims the singer assaulted her in a hotel room in Gassin, while Lamjarred maintains that the encounter was consensual.
Investigators cited several elements prompting the referral to trial: messages the victim sent to a friend shortly after entering the room, interpreted as distress signals; Lamjarred’s high blood alcohol content; and traces of cocaine found during the investigation. Despite contradictory accounts, the prosecutor decided against dismissing the case, leading to the new trial.
This appearance adds to Lamjarred’s already extensive legal history. In 2023, he was sentenced to six years in prison by the Paris assize court for sexual assault at a hotel, a verdict currently under appeal. He has also faced accusations in the United States (2010) and Casablanca (2015), both later resolved or dropped.
The outcome of this trial could have serious implications for the singer’s career and personal life.
