Samuel Eto’o re-elected President of the Cameroonian football federation
Former Cameroonian football star Samuel Eto’o has been re-elected president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) after securing an overwhelming majority during the federation’s elective general assembly on Saturday.
Running as the sole candidate, the former striker of the Indomitable Lions received 85 out of 87 votes, granting him a second four-year term at the helm of Cameroonian football.
The vote took place amid a tense standoff between FECAFOOT and the Ministry of Sports. The ministry had called for the cancellation of the election, citing alleged irregularities and non-compliance with legal procedures.
Despite these objections, FECAFOOT maintained the election date of 29 November, asserting that the process would be monitored by representatives from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to ensure transparency.
With this renewed mandate, Eto’o is expected to continue steering reforms within the federation, despite ongoing political and administrative tensions in the country's sports sector.
