Sofiane Diop shines with Ligue 1 nomination and Morocco call-up
Sofiane Diop, the Moroccan international and OGC Nice winger, has been nominated for the Ligue 1 Player of the Month award for October, following a stellar performance that underscores his growing influence in French football.
The 25-year-old put on an outstanding display last month, scoring five goals and delivering one assist in just four matches. His contributions have been pivotal to Nice’s strong campaign, as they remain in contention for Champions League qualification and continue to challenge Paris Saint-Germain for the Ligue 1 title.
Since joining Nice in 2022, Diop has established himself as one of the team’s key players. Renowned for his pace, dribbling, and creativity on the left flank, he has made over 50 Ligue 1 appearances, tallying 14 goals and 12 assists. This season alone, he has played 12 league matches, scoring six goals and assisting once, while also showcasing his skills on the European stage.
Diop’s nomination places him alongside Mason Greenwood of Olympique Marseille and Joaquín Panichelli of Strasbourg. His recognition highlights not only his individual brilliance but also his crucial role in Nice’s ambitions this season.
On the international front, Diop recently committed to representing Morocco, having previously played for France’s youth teams. Morocco’s head coach, Walid Regragui, has included him in the Atlas Lions’ squad for upcoming friendlies against Mozambique and Uganda, as part of preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which Morocco will host.
Diop’s recent form cements his status as a rising star in football, with both club and country relying on his talent as they aim for greater success.
