Severe floods triggered by torrential rains have claimed at least 467 lives in Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, local authorities reported on Saturday. The deluge has also caused widespread landslides and forced many residents to flee their homes.

In Indonesia, the National Disaster Agency reported over 300 deaths, including 166 in North Sumatra, 47 in Aceh, and 90 in West Sumatra, with roughly 270 people still missing on the island of Sumatra. Rescue teams are working to reach the most severely affected areas. Residents describe scenes of mud-filled homes and unprecedented flooding.

In Thailand, government officials confirmed 162 deaths, with 126 in Songkhla province, where water levels reached up to three meters. Authorities have deployed refrigerated trucks to temporarily store bodies due to overwhelmed morgues.

In Malaysia, authorities reported two fatalities in the affected regions. Across the three countries, communities continue to cope with destruction of property, infrastructure damage, and mass displacement.

This event is considered among the worst flood disasters in Southeast Asia in recent years, highlighting the urgent need for emergency aid and international assistance.
