Spain sets new record in international tourism growth
Spain has reached a historic milestone in international tourism, welcoming 25.6 million foreign visitors during the first four months of the year. This figure marks a 7.1% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).
Revenue from international tourism also saw strong growth, reaching €34.33 billion—an increase of 9.3%. This rise is largely attributed to higher average spending per tourist.
In April alone, Spain hosted 8.6 million international visitors, up 10.1% year-on-year, while tourism revenue for the month climbed 14.2% to €10.83 billion. The average tourist spent €1,264 during their visit in April, with a daily expenditure of €187, reflecting a modest 0.9% uptick.
The United Kingdom, Germany, and France remained Spain’s top three source markets through April, contributing 4.7 million, 3.3 million, and 3.4 million tourists respectively.
British tourists led in total spending, accounting for 16.1% of all international tourism revenue, followed by German visitors at 13.1% and French travelers at 8.1%.
Among the most popular destinations, the Canary Islands topped the list by generating 25.6% of total tourism revenue from January to April. Catalonia followed with 16.6%, and the Madrid region ranked third with 15.8%.
In terms of tourist volume for April, Catalonia was the most visited region, attracting 1.74 million tourists, or 20.3% of the monthly total. Andalusia received 1.39 million visitors (16.2%), and the Balearic Islands hosted 1.36 million tourists (15.8%).
