Strengthening EU-U.S. Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence
The European Union and the United States have highlighted the importance of enhancing their collaboration in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). In a joint statement, European Commission Vice President and Commissioner for Energy stressed the need to remove restrictions on the EU’s purchase of advanced AI chips.
The agreement is expected to have both economic and security benefits. European politicians reaffirmed that the EU is a strategic partner to the U.S., particularly in the security sector. They emphasized the significance of viewing this relationship as an economic opportunity rather than a national security threat.
The importance of strengthening cooperation across the Atlantic to jointly address global challenges, especially concerning technological innovation and competitiveness in AI, was also underlined. Both European officials expressed optimism about finding solutions to ensure a secure and sustainable supply chain for AI technologies and supercomputers.
This collaboration aims to support businesses and citizens on both sides of the Atlantic by enhancing economic exchange and creating a pro-innovation environment. The statement concluded by stressing the importance of maintaining a strong economic partnership between Europe and the U.S. to advance technological progress and explore new opportunities in strategic areas.
It is important to note that the U.S. has previously imposed restrictions on the export of AI technology chips to protect its tech industries and maintain global market competitiveness.
