Strengthening Parliamentary Diplomacy between Morocco and the United Kingdom

In a significant step toward deepening bilateral relations, Salma Bennaziz, Chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs, and Migrants Committee at the Moroccan House of Representatives, held discussions on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, with a delegation representing the British Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The delegation, composed of members from both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, was led by Mr. Fabian Hamilton.

The meeting took place at the Parliament headquarters in Rabat, as part of a working visit by the British delegation from June 2 to 5, 2025. The discussions focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation, sharing legislative experiences, and reinforcing dialogue on key global and regional issues.

Chairwoman Bennaziz emphasized Morocco’s commitment to fostering strong international partnerships based on mutual respect and shared democratic values. She highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in building bridges between nations and advancing collective solutions to global challenges, including migration, security, and development.

Mr. Hamilton, in turn, praised Morocco’s stability and its constructive role in regional peace efforts. He expressed the UK delegation’s interest in enhancing dialogue with their Moroccan counterparts and building a framework for sustained parliamentary collaboration.

This visit underscores the vital role that inter-parliamentary dialogue plays in complementing traditional diplomacy and promoting mutual understanding between nations.
