Sweden files complaint against Amazon over Child-Like sex dolls
A Swedish child protection organization, ChildX, has filed a formal complaint against the American e-commerce giant Amazon and two other online platforms for selling sex dolls resembling children. The NGO stated it has chosen not to disclose the names of the smaller sites to avoid increasing traffic to them, but one is based in Sweden and the other in China.
ChildX expressed concern that the sale of such products could normalize sexual abuse against minors and increase demand for exploitative content. Under Swedish law, any material depicting children in sexualized contexts is prohibited, and the group argues that these dolls may fall under existing regulations on child sexual exploitation.
Ida Östensson, secretary general of ChildX, urged Swedish authorities to expand the blacklist of websites promoting or facilitating abuse against children, noting that the current blacklist is voluntary for telecom operators. She also called for updates to the legislation so that selling sexualized dolls resembling children becomes explicitly illegal, citing statistics that highlight the vulnerability of minors in Sweden.
The complaint follows a similar controversy involving the Chinese e-commerce platform Shein, which faced threats of suspension in France after selling child-like sex dolls and restricted weapons on its site.
