Teenager accidentally sets vehicle ablaze while attempting DIY repair
A 15-year-old girl in the town of Ehingen, in Germany’s southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg, accidentally caused her vehicle to go up in flames while attempting an improvised repair, local police said on Friday.
According to the initial investigation, the teenager used a hot air blower in an effort to force brake cleaner into the engine’s intake manifold. The mixture of heat and flammable chemicals ignited a fire in the engine compartment, which quickly spread and consumed almost the entire vehicle. Only a few metal components remained intact.
Police noted that the vehicle was a light motor car capable of reaching speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour — a type of vehicle that German law allows 15-year-olds to drive.
Authorities believe the girl was trying to start the car in cold weather when it failed to ignite, prompting her risky attempt to use the blower for assistance.
